Many homes around Bukit Mertajam are landed, with their own compound, so a good share of the defects can be outside the rooms. In one new house in our sample report, 30% of the 108 items were on external walls, the car porch, the perimeter, the roof and the water tank area.
- Car porch and apron. Cracks where the slab meets the house, and floors that carry rainwater towards the walls.
- Drains, gutters and downpipes. Standing water, blocked outlets and loose downpipes.
- Boundary and external walls. Cracks, poor finishing, stains and gaps at window frames.
- Upstairs bathrooms. Floor falls and leaks, because the ceiling below is also yours.
